Sacroiliac Joint and Hip Injections in Ventura
Sacroiliac joint and hip injections help with pain that comes from the sacroiliac joints, which are at the base of the spine (sacrum). There are two sacroiliac joints, one on each side of the back. Sacroiliac joints are like shock absorbers between the torso and legs. Lower back, hip, and buttock pain can all come from the sacroiliac joints.
For sacroiliac joint and hip injections, the patient will lie face down on an operating table. The doctor will first numb the skin in the injection area to reduce any pain. The doctor will use X-ray guidance to insert the needle into the sacroiliac joint. The doctor will then inject anti-inflammatory steroid medication directly into the joint. Then the doctor will inject the sacroiliac joint on the other side.
Sometimes the patient may feel a little stinging during the injections, but that should only last for a few seconds. After the injections, the doctor will apply bandages on the injection areas. The patient should be able to take showers with the bandages on, but not submerge that part of their body under water.
After the injections, there may be some temporary weakness in the legs for a few hours. The good news is patients usually feel immediate relief with sacroiliac joint and hip injections. However, for some people it could take a few days to feel relief from pain and inflammation. Sometimes the doctor may ask the patient to keep a diary of their pain after the injection.
