Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a specialized preparation of the platelets that come from a patient's blood. Platelets are rich in multiple growth factors that promote a natural healing response. PRP is highly effective in treating various musculoskeletal injuries including arthritis, joint pain, tendon and ligament injuries, and muscle strains or tears.

A simple blood draw is performed in the office to start. The blood is then spun in a specialized medical centrifuge that concentrates and isolates the platelets. Next, the PRP is prepared and then injected back into the body directly at the injury site.

Total time for this procedure is approximately 30 minutes. It is performed comfortably in the doctor's office with no need to go to a surgery center or hospital. It typically costs either $500 or $800 depending on the type of PRP that is used for the specific procedure being performed.
