Matthew Bloom D.O.

Dr Matthew Bloom

Dr. Bloom was born and raised in Greater Los Angeles, CA. He was born at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, CA. Growing up, he loved playing sports including baseball and basketball. He attended elementary and junior high school in Tarzana, CA where his grandparents worked. He then went to El Camino High School in Woodland Hills, CA where he played varsity basketball.

After high school, Dr. Bloom went to UCLA in Westwood, CA for his undergraduate studies. He majored in Economics, but always had an interest in and passion for health and physical fitness. He worked at the John Wooden Center and Sunset Recreation Center on campus, and was also a personal trainer.

In addition, he held a part-time job working for a doctor’s office while he was in college. It was at this office that he witnessed first hand for the first time the potential to cure people suffering pain from such injuries as back, neck, knee, and shoulder problems.

After graduating from UCLA, Dr. Bloom worked as a business consultant for a year. However, it was during this time that he decided to switch his career path into healthcare. He began working at a physical therapy practice in Santa Monica and taking premed courses to qualify for graduate school. During this time, he met some Physiatrists who impressed him with their wide range of skills and ability to care for patients suffering with pain from musculoskeletal disorders. As a result, he ultimately decided to pursue medical school as his next career move.

Dr. Bloom attended Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in Pomona, CA for medical school. The Osteopathic medical education allowed Dr. Bloom to not only learn traditional medicine, but also to learn how to diagnose and treat patients using his hands from a holistic perspective. In addition, it allowed him to remain close to home with his family and friends. During medical school, Dr. Bloom was focused on earning a residency spot in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R), or Physiatry, from his previous experiences when he was younger.

After completing medical school, Dr. Bloom matched into PM&R residency in New Orleans, LA. He trained in the Louisiana State University (LSU) Health system. It was there that Dr. Bloom honed his skills in diagnosing neruomusculoskeletal disorders and performing non-surgical treatments to help cure people and relieve them of their pain. In addition, Dr. Bloom learned how to perform Regenerative Medicine procedures including platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and stem cell therapy.

This Saturday, September 14th from 8am to 3pm I will be participating in the First Annual Neuro Symposium to be held at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, CA. This event will bring together physicians from various specialties and members of the community in an effort to learn more about the diagnosis and treatment of stroke, an all too common condition that has impacted the lives of many. ...
