Muscle injuries
Muscle injuries are yet anther type of soft tissue injury. Muscle injuries typically occur from stressing a muscle too hard. This can result in a muscle strain if it is milder to a complete muscle tear in more severe cases. Muscle strains are the most common cause of pain in the low back and neck. Complete muscle tears are much less common. They typically occur due to forceful trauma, such as in sports like weightlifting.
Muscle strains usually heal with conservative treatment including rest, pain medications, ice or heat, and physical therapy. Muscle tears may require surgery if they involve important functional muscles or are needed to perform job duties or play sports. MRI and ultrasound can be used to diagnose such an injury. If surgery is not an option, Regenerative Medicine injections with Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) or Stem Cell Therapy may help to heal the tear.
